The implementation of the Evomedix digital platform at the Cluj Oncology Institute represents an important step in modernizing clinical and operational processes, offering a high level of safety and traceability for both patients and medical staff. Through integrated technology for real-time monitoring and digital management of hospital workflows, the institution is adopting practices aligned with major European oncology centers.
What the Evomedix Solution Provides
Upon admission, each patient receives a smart bracelet equipped with RFID technology. The bracelet is labeled with the patient’s name, age, a unique identification code, and a color code indicating the patient’s mobility level (red — immobilized, yellow — requires assistance, green — autonomous). The system allows real-time monitoring of the patient’s location and the duration of their stay in a given area.
The Evomedix digital platform enables complete traceability — not only of patients, but also of medical instruments, sterilized equipment, and cleaning activities — drastically reducing the risk of hospital-acquired infections.
Medical and auxiliary staff use identification cards and validate any intervention (treatment administration, wound care, cleaning, etc.), providing clear and transparent traceability of all actions within the hospital.
Concrete Benefits for the Oncology Institute and Its Patients
Increased safety for vulnerable patients — oncology patients with reduced immunity are especially exposed to infection risks associated with medical care; the Evomedix system enables rapid identification of contacts and isolation of suspected cases to prevent contamination.
Administrative efficiency and reduced bureaucracy — paper records are eliminated, and all relevant data is managed digitally in real time, optimizing workflows and reducing human errors.
Complete traceability — from patient to instrument — every instrument, every medical procedure, and every cleaning action is recorded, ensuring full traceability and facilitating any investigations or inspections.
Rapid intervention in critical situations — in the event an infection is detected, the medical team can identify the ward, the patient’s location, and other exposed patients to take immediate action.
The project, with a total value of 6 million euros, was fully funded through PNRR funds, with no financial contribution from the Institute.
Thanks to this program, the Cluj Oncology Institute has succeeded in adopting modern safety and traceability standards — a model of best practices for medical institutions in Romania.
Moreover, the implementation of the Evomedix solution contributes significantly to the broader objective of controlling healthcare-associated infections, an effort already appreciated by the medical community.
